Maria Lewis joined the ATA in September 2009 and works in its New Ulm, Minnesota, office where she manages the ATA’s Trade Show and membership teams. Her responsibilities have steadily increased the past seven years. In her original role as member-services manager she helped enroll members and managed ATA’s membership program. Eventually she began coordinating the ATA Trade Show, where she most recently served as director of Trade Show operations.
Besides working one-on-one with exhibitors and sponsors to craft and meet their objectives, Lewis helps coordinate Trade Show events and programs. She also leads the Trade Show team’s site selection and contracting efforts, and works with all the Show’s service providers.
In September 2013, to further enhance her role as the ATA’s Trade Show coordinator, Lewis completed her certification in exhibition management (CEM) from the International Association of Exhibitions and Events.
Lewis enjoys working with exhibitors as they prepare for archery and bowhunting’s largest trade show. When asked about the highlights of her job, she said they include constant communication, developing solid relationships with ATA member-exhibitors, and opportunities to meet members face to face at the Trade Show and other industry events each year.
Lewis graduated from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After graduation, she worked in the promotional-products industry for eight years before joining the ATA.
Besides her full-time work, she also helped at Twin Rivers Archery, an archery pro shop she co-owned with her husband, Mitch, who managed the store. Her experiences at Twin Rivers Archery gave her a greater appreciation of archery and bowhunting, and a strong, personal affinity for independent pro shop retailers. By far, her favorite part of working at the store was helping young hunters and teaching youth archery classes. Lewis is a Level 2 archery instructor, as recognized by USA Archery and National Field Archery Association.
She is also active in sports, and coached high-school teams for several years. She now enjoys coaching her own children: Carson, Brooklyn, and Rex, and their youth teams. She also likes running, and participates in 5K or 10K races when she can.
Lewis and her family live on a hobby farm site outside New Ulm, and spend most of their free time enjoying the outdoors.
