Matt Kormann

Matt Kormann of Marietta, Georgia, joined ATA in October 2017 as president and CEO.

Previously, Matt was senior vice president of corporate account sales for Freeman, a $2.5 billion world leader in event marketing. Matt spent 17 years with Freeman, including 30 months in his role as SVP of corporate account sales. Before that he spent nearly six years as vice president.

While with Freeman, Matt learned the best practices of hundreds of businesses, industries and associations while becoming a business leader and passionate team coach. He also served three years as a trustee for the Carroll Independent School District when living in Southlake, Texas, and was a member of its budget and finance committee.

Matt also worked regularly in recent years as a consultant to startup companies, providing vertical assessments, sales strategies, investment networking and general advisory input. He served nearly two years on the advisory board for Bottles Waiting, a tech startup in Las Vegas, and six months on the advisory board for Cure Analytics, a predictive-analytics startup in New York City.

Matt is also an avid archer, a certified USA Archery judge and USA Archery Level 2 instructor. He has also been a member of the National Field Archery Association since 2013.

Archery plays a big role in Matt’s home life, evidenced by a 70-meter range in his family’s backyard. Matt and his wife, Heidi, have a daughter, Mackenzie, who competes nationally and internationally with her compound bow in 3-D and target archery events. During 2017, Matt logged over 4,000 miles supporting Mackenzie’s efforts.

When accepting the ATA position, Matt said archery and bowhunting are facing challenges, but he’s confident he and the ATA staff can grow and strengthen the sports. “I’ve fallen in love with the archery community because it has a culture of service and caring,” he said. “It’s a great community that supports each other in the sport and in business. I see that everywhere I go. I’m eager and excited to get to work.”

Matt went to high school in Maplewood, Minnesota, which is northeast of the Twin Cities. He also has relatives in Mankato, Minnesota, which is 25 miles east of the ATA’s headquarters in New Ulm.

Matt graduated from Hill-Murray High School in 1989, and attended Hamline University in St. Paul beginning in 1990 pursuing degrees in anthropology, communications and psychology. He pursued business course work at the Dallas campus of the University of Phoenix in 2003. He has continued his professional development through coursework at Bell Leadership at the University of North Carolina, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, among many others.
