The ATA Academy’s seminar series provides business solutions to ATA members by offering tips and information that help them grow, learn and succeed. The seminars are held each morning of the ATA Trade Show for the exclusive benefit of ATA members. The 2018 Show is Jan. 11 to 13 in Indianapolis.
The 2018 ATA Academy features 36 free 60-minute presentations on topics ranging from websites, marketing and social media to high-priority issues like counterfeiting, MAP policies and federal excise taxes. And with 15 new presenters, you’ll gain fresh perspectives from industry professionals, who – like you – are dedicated to growing archery and bowhunting.
For instance, you’ll learn about the importance of buying groups and MAP pricing from ATA Board of Director members Gary Kinard and Wayne Piersol. Or dive into what makes a great website with Sydney Schalit and Eric Whiting; or explore how to build an archery learning academy with Lynda LeCompte. You can also discover how to meet the needs of female customers with Whitney Johnson, or get a quick rundown from Randy Phillips on how to succeed in archery retailing in 2018.
In addition, ATA staff will present seminars on marketing, counterfeit products, federal excise taxes, creating good business plans, partnerships that boost business, and pathways that help customers find their archery “home.”

New for 2018: Three manufacturer-targeted seminars will be held outside the regular seminar schedule to accommodate exhibitors’ busy schedules.

Manufacturers face business challenges unique to them, and so the ATA created seminars to help these companies improve their operations. That meant bringing in experts from the IRS and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to discuss federal excise taxes. The seminar will be Jan. 10 at 4 p.m. in the seminar area.
In addition, representatives from the Intellectual Property Rights Center and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol will discuss counterfeiting issues on Jan. 10 at 3 p.m., and Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. in the seminar area.

Start planning your seminar schedule now. If you attend the Show with staff, coworkers or industry friends, the ATA suggests you split up to attend as many presentations as possible. Afterward, compare notes and information.
If you attend the Show alone, don’t worry. It’s a good place to make connections and find help. After each session, gather contact information from your peers or the presenter, and follow up with them after the Show. In fact, feel free to contact the presenters even if you didn’t attend their session.
