This year is special for Americans, especially Archery Trade Association members, who are excited to see international archery competition near home.
The Archery World Cup returns to the United States after a multi-year absence, landing at the Easton Salt Lake Archery Center in Utah, June 21-25.
The World Cup is one of the world’s most prestigious archery events. It’s part of a four-competition series conducted by World Archery, with Olympic hopefuls and the world’s best compound archers battling for world ranking points, top prizes and coveted spots in the year-end World Cup Final. Over 300 athletes from 41 countries are expected to participate.
In 2010, 2011, and 2012, the Utah leg of the World Cup held their finals at the local baseball field, placing archery in one of America's favorite pastime arenas.
The Easton Sports Development Foundation won the North American bid to host the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Salt Lake City after previously hosting the event in Ogden, Utah, in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The event’s return to U.S. soil was a collaboration between the Utah Sports Commission and Visit Salt Lake. Thanks to that partnership, the Easton Salt Lake Archery Center was awarded the third leg of the World Cup series for 2017, 2018 and 2019.
“We’re excited to host this prestigious event at the new world-class Easton Salt Lake Archery Center,” said Greg Easton, president of Jas. D. Easton Inc., and a member of the ATA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee. “We built this facility with hosting major events in mind, and we’re proud we can bring a leg of the World Cup back to Utah and Salt Lake City.”
The event, which is open to the public, is an opportunity for ATA members to see the world’s greatest archers competing. Several Rio 2016 Olympic medalists and World champions are expected to compete in this high-level event, which includes a U.S. squad that will try to dominate with its home-court advantage. The finals’ head-to-head matches will be June 24-25, with an Archery Fest for spectators and a Try Archery event also available.
The Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place at the Easton Salt Lake Archery Center in Utah, June 21-25. The event is open to the public, and spectators can watch the match play from designated visitor seating.
Members of the archery community who live in or near Salt Lake City are encouraged to enjoy the event as spectators, or even volunteer to work there. “This event offers great opportunities for volunteers, spectators and sponsors to get involved and contribute to its success,” Easton said. The event features hundreds of the world’s greatest archers, so World Archery will live video-stream the finals and post-event activities for spectators.
