Attendees at the 2022 ATA Trade Show, Jan. 7-9 at the Kentucky Exposition Center, will have the opportunity to take a Level 3 USA Archery Instructor Certification course and will have extra time to walk the Show floor, thanks to an online component for the Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 courses.
Instructor certification boosts your marketing value, provides your staff valuable skills and knowledge and gives your store access to Explore Archery and Junior Olympic Archery Development programs that attract and engage new archers. ATA members from previous years love that the courses offered at the Show are easy to attend and cheaper than courses outside the Show, made possible by a partnership with USA Archery. The courses are also tailored to ATA members, who know a lot about archery, saving them time.
Let’s review some exciting changes for the upcoming Show, as well as the details for each course level, so you can weigh your options before registration opens on Aug. 10.

- All Courses Have an Online Component and In-Person Portion
This year, ATA members enrolled in a certification course at #ATA2022 will be required to complete an online portion of the course before they attend the Show. USA Archery staff expect the online component of the Level 1 course to take two to three hours, and the Level 2 online portion between four and five hours. This hybrid approach allows participants to complete most of the coursework in the comfort of their home before the Show, giving them more time on the Show floor during the three-day event. Participants will demonstrate the skills they learned in the online setting during the in-person portion of the class.
How it works: ATA members can enroll in a certification course on Aug. 10 and pay the fees. Registrants will be given a code to take the online portion of the course anytime between the day they register and the in-person 2022 Show. Participants will receive a certificate when they complete the online component, which they’ll need to attend the practical portion of the course.
- The Level 3 Certification Is Now Available for the 2022 Show
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, USA Archery started offering its instructor certification courses online. Jennifer Mazur, ATA’s senior director of outreach and education, welcomed the change and saw it as an opportunity to satisfy member requests for a Level 3 course at the Show.
“We always wanted to offer Level 3 at the Show, but it’s a two-and-a-half-day course so it wasn’t logistically viable,” Mazur said. “But with the online component, it’s now something we can bring to our Show and offer our members.”

Participants in the Level 1 Instructor Certification course are trained to teach beginner programs like Explore Archery. Trainees learn about range safety, range setup, shooting steps, equipment and repair, and programs and lesson plans.
Members can participate in one of two courses. The first is open to 30 people from 1 to 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7. The second is open to 30 people from 9 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 8. Both Level 1 courses are typically $115 but will cost $50 for the 2022 Show.
Participants in the Level 2 Instructor Certification course cover the curriculum from the Level 1 course in greater detail, and learn about archery events, equipment and accessories, as well as athlete development. Trainees also learn the National Training System Steps of Shooting for compound and recurve bows. Level 2 instructors become qualified to teach the Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification course and can receive USA Archery insurance coverage. A Level 1 certification is required before taking Level 2 at the Trade Show.
ATA members can take the Level 2 course on Saturday, Jan. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. or Sunday, Jan. 9, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sixty people can enroll in the Level 2 course, 30 per class. Participants will pay $60 to earn their Level 2 certificate. The course normally costs $175 outside the ATA Show.
Participants in the Level 3-NTS Coach Certification course will be introduced to coaching philosophy, event preparation, mental skills, training cycles and plans and equipment tuning and will receive advanced instruction on the National Training System (NTS) for Recurve and Compound.
The Level 3 course is available to 20 people and will be split into two parts. Part one is on Friday, Jan. 7, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and part two is on Saturday, Jan. 8, at the same time. The course will cost $100, saving ATA members $275 from the typical $375 cost.

Registration opens Aug. 10 through the ArcheryTrade.org certification webpage. Only ATA members can register for an instructor certification course. Level 2 and Level 3 participants must pass a background check to become certified.
