The ATA is known for kicking off the trade show season every January with the ATA Trade Show. Here retailers and manufacturers display the latest products to excite the industry, generate orders and conduct valuable face-to-face meetings with other industry professionals. Though it’s the ATA’s flagship event, it’s only one of many benefits the ATA has to offer its members. The ATA works for the industry in as many categories as possible to ensure our members have the resources they need to conduct their business, remain in-the-know about any of the latest news and stay well connected to the industry.
ATA Member Resources
The ATA offers a vast library of over 50 documents that were created by ATA staff, the board of directors and other industry experts. These cover every category of business needs, including hiring your staff members, reviewing the latest industry trends, and understanding the Federal Excise Tax cycle. Members can download all of these resources and more in the library at no cost as part of their membership. Visit the Member Dashboard to learn more.
Learning Center
If you’re looking for educational webinars to learn more about the inner workings of running a business and how to expand your archery-related credentials, our Learning Center will be a vital tool. This is your go-to resource for courses on the basics of archery retail, inventory management, building a website, building a community and more. For in-person education sessions, attend the ATA Trade Show, talk with industry experts and experience their seminars live. Visit the Learning Center to learn more.
Bow Technician Certification
The Learning Center is also home to the online component of our Bow Technician Certification program. Each course has been carefully curated by ATA staff and industry professionals to teach proper maintenance and repairs for all types of bows: recurve, compound and crossbow. You’ll begin by taking the online components to learn the basics, such as proper bow fitment and shooting form. Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll register for an in-person practical assessment where an industry professional will watch you practice the information you learned in the course in real time. Instructors follow a grading rubric that’s designed to ensure that you understand the daily tasks you’ll be required to complete as a technician, such as demonstrating proper shooting form and shop safety, setting up the bow with strings, cams, and cables, and attaching accessories like the d-loop, peep sight, and arrow rests. Practicals are offered at various locations throughout the country each year, as well as the ATA Show, taking place Jan. 7-10, 2026, in Indianapolis.
Important Legislation
The ATA always has its finger on the pulse of legislation affecting the archery and bowhunting industries and relays the information to its members. We alert our members of anything important going through the House, Senate and other government entities via articles and newsletters. Whenever there is pending legislation that needs direct action, we send out an Action Alert with pre-filled information and a button to send an email to the proper legislators to make your voice heard. We also keep our FET (Federal Excise Tax) documents updated according to the latest data. We recently released FET collections for archery products, as reported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for the quarter ending June 30, 2025, and have updated our FET Guidelines. Kurt Smith and Dan Forster, dedicated ATA staff members, are available by email or phone call to help you interpret these guidelines if you have any questions or concerns. We have also contracted an FET tax expert to help with further review of more in-depth questions as necessary. Members can access FET documents through the Resource Library.
