Recently, the Archery Trade Association needed help from the archery business community to pass the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences Act. Swift passage of the EXPLORE Act will help ensure that our federal public lands are accessible, well managed, and continue to provide a critically important foundation for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Action was needed to help clear the final legislative hurdle and move the EXPLORE Act onto the president’s desk for signature.
The EXPLORE Act is unique in that it is the first ever outdoor recreation-specific bill package and it achieves a variety of beneficial outcomes without additional cost to taxpayers. Your ATA has been working diligently as a member of the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable Board of Directors to help drive this Act to final passage in the Senate.
Specifically, the EXPLORE Act will:
- Promote the expansion of public range facilities on public lands by requiring at least one shooting range on all Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service districts.
- Streamline permit facilitation that will alleviate challenges for outfitters and guides and enhance access for archery hunters and other outdoor adventure seekers.
- Develop, improve, and complete long-range trails where archery hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts will have better access to remote areas.
- Guarantee green space access in underserved communities.
- Boost rural economic development.
