Joel Maxfield joined Matt McPherson in May 1992 to start Mathews Achery. He has served as general manager and VP of marketing for Mathews and is currently their brand ambassador. Maxfield was appointed to fill the Mathews seat on the ATA Board of Directors in 2021.
Maxfield has spent his lifetime involved in the archery industry, including working at, and eventually managing, an archery pro shop during college while earning his marketing degree. After college, he owned and managed his own archery pro shop for several years. He then moved on to manufacturing with McPherson Archery. After the sale of that company, he reunited with Matt McPherson to start Mathews Archery.
Maxfield's accomplishments include the archery Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep, the Ovis Award, and eventually the archery Super Slam of North America, the pinnacle of North American big game hunting. Maxfield is an avid archer and competes in local, state and national competitions with multiple wins at all levels.
Joel has been involved with the National Archery in the Schools Program from the beginning, as well as local and state archery organizations. He also has past experience with the AMO and ATA.
“I’m proud to be chosen to represent Mathews on the Board," Maxfield said. "Mathews is dedicated to archery and is highly involved in many aspects of the sport. This is a chance to have a positive impact on the industry.”
